The History of Super Mario RPG

I never heard of Super Mario RPG until I was older. Probably around 13 or 14. I think the first time I’d heard about it was through the Nintendo Direct that announced it’d be coming to the Wii U Virtual Console (if that even happened haha.)
Then one day while I was at my local game store, (Monster Games, RIP) I ended up finding a genuine copy for the SNES. Less than $70 even. That place always had what I needed or wanted, and I thought “Heck, I’ll snag it.”
Little did I know that I would fall in love with the game. As someone who isn’t the biggest fan of Turn-based games, I immediately fell in love with it. The music by Yoko Shimomura, the graphics, the charm, the humor, the characters, all of it. Just fantastic.
I’d always been averse to JRPGs, specifically Turn-based games. I loved the Tales series, but couldn’t get into Pokemon, or Final Fantasy, or even the Paper Mario series.
Like many gamers, I’d built up a collection of games I’ll probably never beat. Final Fantasy and Paper Mario games are among those. I of course have TTYD and even Super Paper Mairo for the Wii, but I can’t get more than an hour into them. I’m not 100% sure what Super Mario RPG had going for it, but I can promise you that after beating it in one weekend, the weekend I bought it, it’ll forever stay as quite possibly my favorite SNES game.
